Cholupa: Geographical Indication

The Trademark Office, through its resolution No.43536 deemed the protection of the name "Cholupa del Huila" as a geographic indication with origin in Colombia and specifically in the region of Huila.

The indication protected by the Trademark office represents a fruit named "Cholupa" which is characterized by it’s round shape, green or yellow color, presistent and attractive smell with a sweet and sour taste.

These characteristics are essentially due to the general climate found in this area of the country. (See map)

The trademark application for "Cholupa del huila" was filed on July 10 2006 by the Department of Huila and went though an extensive formal study which conlcuded in the protection of the name.
